How A Texas Couple Turned Down 'Shark Tank' Money And Still Took Their Babywear Firm To $4M Revenue

“Shark Tank forced us to grow at a pace that we never could have imagined and we found that we truly had the pieces of the puzzle in place to make it happen without giving up a percentage of our company,” Stephanie Parker told me by email.

Shark Tank winners go through what is sometimes a months-long due diligence process and other companies have turned down their offers in the end. But still, it takes guts to turn down cash and Daymond John as an investor. The Parkers said he was gracious when they backed away from the deal and remains a mentor."

An Entrepreneurial Reality TV Shopping Guide for Buying Baby Gear

"I love reality television. I was an early adopter of The Bachelor, Dragons' Den and Shark Tank -- just to name a few. My absolute favorites have always been the shows that spotlight small businesses. For those new to this genre, budding entrepreneurs present their concepts to a panel of accomplished investors for a chance to land expert partners -- and gain millions of eyeballs in exposure at the same time...."Shark Tank winners go through what is sometimes a months-long due diligence process and other companies have turned down their offers in the end. 15 Female Entrepreneurs Who Have Left Their Mark on America

"The growing impact of women entrepreneurs is evident today. Women-owned firms account for almost 30 percent of all businesses and one in five women-owned firms tout revenue of $1 million or more, according to research conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and its Center for Women in Business in 2014.

This development can be traced back to the inception of the United States through women who shaped its entrepreneurial landscape by starting micro-enterprises out of choice or necessity. Many of the women who have succeeded in business are examples of hope and encouragement for other women considering launching their own ventures. They are role models for women setting out to launch their own businesses in the 21st century. .."

Stephanie Parker, co-founder of Sleeping Baby. Stephanie Parker and her husband had tried every product on the market to help their daughter, who had recently outgrown her swaddle, fall and stay asleep. Now, what started as a desperate solution to help her daughter sleep is set to gross over $1 million.

Sleeping Baby Was Featured on Forbes!

It doesn’t take much to start a company in the Internet age. Two entrepreneurs I met last Friday have a business they say is set to gross $1 million this year. They started Sleeping Baby with $500 in savings just two and a half years ago. It’s a classic up-from-the-bootstraps entrepreneurial story, but it’s happened at hyper speed, and the latest chapter is quintessentially of the media age. The company, Sleeping Baby, got its latest round of funding — $200,000 — from mogul Daymond John on the ABC hit show Shark Tank.

Fall 2014 Award Winner - Zipadee-Zip Wearable Blanket

"Zipadee-Zip helps a baby have the cozy, enclosed, womb-like feel of the swaddle but it allows a baby push up, roll over, and wiggle around safely and freely. It encourages self-soothing and longer, sounder sleep, prevents scratching, and keeps little hands warm all night long. Zipadee-Zips are Eco-friendly because of how long they can be worn; extremely durable and roomy allowing a baby to grow into them. You can't get any easier than laying a baby down and zipping them up. Zipadee-Zip offers several improvements to traditional swaddling — they offer the same cozy experience but a baby's hands and feet are free to move. They are perfect for keeping a baby's hands clean while out and about, since people are often tempted to touch a baby's hands. Zipadee-Zip also deters finger sucking since baby's hands are tucked inside. The product design also makes a baby look like a cute little starfish."

Two Parents Turn $700 Savings Into a Million Dollar Business

When you think of a new baby, immediately we think “sleep deprivation.” Most parents have experienced sleep issues with babies or toddlers, but one Texas couple took matters into their own hands and invented a solution to their daughter’s sleep problem. After two weeks of utter exhaustion, Stephanie was desperate to help her daughter sleep (which also meant mom and dad could finally sleep!). When their hand-sewn invention worked like magic and their baby sleep 12 straight hours the first night (and each night thereafter), the Parkers knew they had something special. The power mom and dad duo recently shared their inspirational story on the hit ABC series, Shark Tank, so we were eager to sit down with them and learn just how they did it – and what advice they have for other entrepreneurs...

Sept/Oct 2014 I wish I had the Zipadee-Zip with my first baby. She hated to be tightly swaddled and always needed her arms to be free. The Zipadee-Zip is such a great idea and the products are so well made. The zipper is hidden by a little piece of fabric so the baby won’t scratch herself on it and the fabric isn’t too thick which will help prevent the baby from getting hot and sweaty. The product does look a little like a flying squirrel suit and you can’t help but chuckle when you see it.

Another Zipadee-Zip Shark Tank Giveaway on the Barbara's Beat Blog!

Sleepingbaby.com founders Stephanie and Brett Parker will be on Shark Tank this Friday, September 26th at 8PM ET. See how this mom and dad turned a common parenting problem into a successful business – their story is so inspirational! I love how Stephanie thought of the idea in the midst of being so sleep deprived (their little girl would not sleep after they took her out of the swaddle; after 2 weeks of not sleeping Stephanie pulled out her little sewing machine and created the first “Zippy”). And what’s even cooler, is they took their $700 savings and turned it into a hugely successful business – via word of mouth! In the beginning Stephanie sewed each Zipadee-Zip by hand as the orders came in. Such a cool story and we are so happy to be sharing it with you!

Zipadee-Zip review: "From Swaddle to Sleep Time in No Time"

"As a mother of four children I have had my share of babies who have trouble sleeping. Two out of my four were perfect sleepers but the other two were a challenge. I used to try everything I could think of, every suggestion I received, everything I read, to get them to fall asleep and stay asleep and honestly not much worked consistently. If only I had a Zipadee-Zip!"

Still Playing School

“We use gentle ways to encourage our babies to sleep as they are developmentally ready to do so. The Zippy helped D feel comfy and covered when he was too big to swaddle, yet reluctant to sleep in just his pajamas. I would use the Zippy as his pajamas in the summer with just a diaper underneath! He loved his Zippys and so did we! We are thrilled to offer you one once again as a giveaway…”

Being Cindy Baldwin

“As soon as I received the Zippy, I was impressed with the design and construction (something that, as a seamstress, I always look at!). It's very well-made and has held up beautifully to all of Kate's manic rolling. I especially like the top, which has a little pocket that tucks over the zipper so that it doesn't scratch your baby's chin. (Brilliant, right?) Both of my Zippys are made of good-quality cotton knit…”

These Little Moments

“The Zipadee-Zip is a blanket that helps ease your baby gently from swaddling to using a blanket. The starfish design allows the baby to have their arms free, but gives just enough resistance to keep them feeling snugly.
