On Nov. 30, Sleeping Baby will partner with the Pedro Martinez Foundation for the fourth year running to help feed and encourage at-risk children in the Dominican Republic as part of the worldwide Giving Tuesday movement.

For every $30 customer order received on Nov. 30, Sleeping Baby will donate a meal and a toy for a child in need (about $8 per order).

As a result of proceeds from last year’s Giving Tuesday (Dec. 1, 2020), Sleeping Baby was able to donate 142 meals to these at-risk children.

The global Giving Tuesday movement started in 2012 as a way for people and organizations to improve their communities by acts of kindness and generosity on the Tuesday following the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, according to

Sleeping Baby continues to partner with the Pedro Martinez Foundation because of the high impact the foundation has on youth and their families, according to Charles Chessher, Sleeping Baby Operations Director.

The Pedro Martinez Foundation works to help youth ages 6-12 who are at risk for abuse, teen pregnancy and crime by offering them education, healthy meals, and facilities to practice sports and the arts, according to It was founded by Boston Red Sox pitching legend Pedro Martinez to help children in the neighborhood where he grew up, and to give them opportunities for growth and empowerment, the website states.

Pedro Martinez and his wife, Carolina, spend time with children at the foundation on a regular basis, getting to know them and joining in with various activities on the campus, such as sports teams, summer camps, toy drives, cooking classes and musical performances, according to the website. More than 375 children use the Community Center on a regular basis, the website states, in addition to parents who receive parenting and vocation training.

According to the Pedro Martinez Foundation website, “We have become an incubator for talent development, a happy place for play, support for those facing adversity, and a healing balm for those dealing with wounds and despair.”

Since the Pedro Martinez Foundation began its mission 14 years ago, it has served 61,168 beneficiaries, offered 19 programs, trained 1,255 entrepreneurs, granted 4,854 scholarships, given complimentary classes to 3,323 children and provided 233,654 meals, as stated on the foundation’s Instagram account
