Great Holiday Festive Family Activities
As the holidays get closer, joy and excitement begin to overwhelm the children of the house. While they patiently wait for Christmas, Hanukkah, or another holiday that your family celebrates, there are plenty of fun holiday activities for them to keep busy. These activities are perfect to keep the holiday spirit alive and keep your children from becoming overly impatient:
DIY Ornaments
Decorating the Christmas tree is usually a great family activity for kids and parents alike. While it’s great to go shopping for your favorite ornaments to hang on this year’s tree, making them yourself can sometimes be a lot more rewarding. Your kids will love being able to create their own personalized ornaments and then see them hanging on the tree throughout the holidays.
Gingerbread House
Building a gingerbread house combines to favorites of many kids: arts and crafts and making cookies! Once you have all the necessary materials, get your child set up to build their very own gingerbread house. Be sure to have plenty of icing, sprinkles, gumdrops, and the works in order for them to get creative in the process. Your child will love the finished product that they’ve created, but they’ll love being able to eat the sweet treats even more!
Potato Stamps
Potato stamping is a very unique holiday activity that only requires a few potatoes, colorful paint, and a creative imagination! To get started, set out all the various colors of paint and then cut the potatoes in half for your child. They can then have a blast painting the inside of the potato to their liking, ideally in the shape of an ornament, and then stamp it on some construction paper. This activity allows your child to express their creativity and have some fun with a fun arts and crafts project.
Holiday Cookies
Baking is a very popular activity during the holidays, but we don’t involve our children as much as we could. Getting your kids involved in baking holiday cookies is not only beneficial to their developmental skills, but we’re sure they’ll love the end product as well! Grab your little helpers in the kitchen and show them how you mix different ingredients together and various other preparation steps for making the cookies. Once the dough is finished, you and the kids can either make your own custom shapes, or use cookie cutters for precise designs.
