5 Ways to Teach Kids Their ABCs

learning ABCWhen your child is ready to start learning the basics, like the alphabet, there are certain ways you can make it easier on them. At this young age, kids are always eager to learn and discover new things, but they may sometimes struggle and get frustrated when they make a mistake. The key is to help and support them along the way, and ensure them there’s no need to worry because they’ll be singing the alphabet in no time! Here are some ways to teach your kids the ABCs:

1. Learning Games

Turning this important learning experience into some type of game will go a long way in helping your child develop these skills. If you can manage to make it fun and enjoyable for them, not only will they more open to learning as much as possible, but they will also become more involved in the whole experience. There are tons of ideas for various alphabet and counting board games and word-of-mouth games you can find for your kid to play.

 2. Point it Out

Try to point out different numbers and letters in every possible situation you can. One great idea is to label various items and aspects of your house, such as a light switch, a wall, a table, etc., and any time your child walks by the label, you can help them figure out the letters involved in making each word. Another great idea is a scavenger hunt of letters and numbers. Hiding certain letters and numbers around the house and allowing your child to find and learn them is a fun way to teach.

3. Bedtime Books

There are more child development books available than you could ever need. Books that cater to teaching young children their ABCs are perfect for bedtime stories. In fact, it has been shown that you retain information a lot better if you learn it right before going to sleep, which only makes this a better idea! When your child is ready to settle down for the night, break out their favorite alphabet or number book and read through it, helping them along the way.

4. Letter Magnets

You’ve likely come across the letter-shaped magnets on someone’s fridge at least once in the past. These magnets are perfect for teaching kids to learn their ABCs. Not only are they colorful and fun to play with, but they become a valuable learning tool when put in front of your children in such a unique manner.

5. Name Game

Choose a letter and ask your child to name as many words as they can think of that starts with that letter. Picking a letter that your child must think critically about and rattle off multiple words provides a great learning experience. The more often you play this game, you’ll see how quickly your child begins to add more words and names to each list!

Written by Stephanie Parker from Sleepingbaby.com, inventor of the Zipadee-Zip

The motto for Sleeping Baby, makers of the Zipadee-Zip, is: “Inspiring Dreams One Night at A time,” and that, in a nutshell, is how it all started…with one little dream that has since become the Parker family’s reality. When Brett and Stephanie Parker’s daughter, Charlotte, was born, the feeling that welled up inside of them was indescribable; they never realized until first looking into those baby blues of hers that they were even capable of that kind of love.

When it was time to transition baby from swaddling, the Parkers tried every sleep sack on the market and every swaddle weaning trick they could find for nearly two weeks and nothing worked to get baby Charlotte to fall and stay asleep.

Stephanie became determined to restore sleep and sanity to their household and set out to find a solution that would soothe Charlotte’s startle reflex and provide her the cozy womb-like environment she loved so much but still give her the freedom to roll over and wiggle around in her crib safely. Out of sheer desperation and exhaustion, the Zipadee-Zip was born. The first Zipadee-Zip(R) Stephanie put together on her little sewing machine worked like magic!

To date tens of thousands of Zipadee-Zips have been sold and all from word-of-mouth marketing. It is so rewarding for the Parkers to see other parents and babies getting the sleep they both need and deserve!
