4 Nutritious Foods for Baby and Toddlers
The food market has been making a big buzz about all organic everything in recent years.
The organic boom is for good reason. People are becoming more and more conscious of what they feed their families, and how they treat their bodies and our environment. If you want to bring your babies and toddlers on the healthy food bandwagon with you, you’ve made the right choice.
You know fruits and vegetables are the way to go, but some are better for babies and toddlers than others. There’s a lot to learn, so we figured we’d give you a place to start.
Ingredients you sourced yourself are generally safer than store-bought meals and farm raised ingredients. The fresher the better. Here are some things we keep stocked in our kitchen for our children and ourselves.
1. Yogurt
This classic snack has amazing immune boosting properties! It’s also known to help with your brain and heart health. But not just any yogurt will yield these outstanding results. Opt for plain organic yogurts with no sugar added for optimal results.
You can jazz this snack up to be kid approved with your favorite fruits and granola. We love to add mandarins to ours. There are so many ways to get creative with this yogurt.
2. Lentils
This legume is packed with more nutritional power than you would ever think. These legumes are great for boosting energy and encouraging your little one’s digestive health. Lentils are an excellent source of protein and mixed with the best of veggies, it makes a meal perfect for your little prince or princess.
3. Squash
Because of its naturally sweet flavor and soft texture, babies love this one. Toddlers can appreciate the subtle flavor of squash as well. Squash is an excellent source of vitamins A and C. We like to serve squash with garbanzo beans for a quick healthy meal. If you don’t already love squash yourself now, you’ll find you may take a liking to it too!
4. Avocados
The avocado is the epitome of “good’ fat. It actually has a similar composition to breast milk which of course makes it really good for you. The unsaturated fat in avocados makes it safe for babies and toddlers. Kids absolutely love the combination of apples and avocados on toast. Equally tomatoes with avocados are amazing too.
